Ajournement (adjournment)

A decision postponing the examination of the application, with a set delay before reapplying.

According to service-public.gouv.fr, a naturalization application can be refused (rejected) or postponed (adjourned). Where it is postponed, a delay is imposed — for example to allow you to improve your professional integration — and a new application can be filed once that delay has passed.

The official page gives no typical duration: the delay is set case by case in the decision itself. So it is the decision you received that counts, not the durations that circulate in discussions between applicants.

An adjournment never appears in the Journal Officiel: only decrees granting nationality are published. An AlertJO alert stays active with no time limit: if your file succeeds after an adjournment and a new application, your number will be detected on the day the decree is published.
